Yoga has long been known for its benefits—improving flexibility, reducing stress, and calming the mind. But when paired with somatic practices, its impact goes even deeper. Somatics isn’t just about movement; it’s about awareness—tuning into the subtle signals your body is giving you in each moment.
Many people practice yoga purely as a physical exercise, but when we bring attention to the felt experience of each posture, we create space for real transformation. Somatic awareness helps us notice tension patterns, regulate our nervous system, and release deeply held stress that we may not even realise we're carrying.
For example, in a yoga pose, rather than focusing on how deep you can go, what if you focused on how safe and supported you feel? Can you sense where your body is bracing or gripping? By combining yoga with somatic principles, we move from ‘doing’ yoga to experiencing it.
If you’re curious about integrating somatics into your movement practice, my book Your Calm Compass offers practical guidance, and my coaching programme weaves these principles into 1:1 support. Learn more at https://www.yogahealthandwellness.co.uk/
