Why "Just Talk About It" Doesn't Always Work

Why "Just Talk About It" Doesn't Always Work

If you've ever sat across from a therapist who kept gently pushing, "but what do you think that really means?", digging back into where a pattern started, and felt more frustrated than helped, you're not alone. Traditional talk therapy and counselling often work by revisiting the past, understanding it, making sense of it, hoping insight itself creates change. For some people, that's exactly what they need. For others, it becomes a loop of analysis that never quite reaches the thing that's actually stuck.

That's because a lot of what we're holding isn't a thought problem, waiting to be understood through more discussion of how it started. It's sitting in the body, in tension, in bracing, in a nervous system still running old patterns right now, in the present moment.

This is where somatic work, hypnotherapy and NLP part ways with that backward-looking approach, even though they're often assumed to sit in the same category. All three ask a different question: not "why did this happen," but "what's happening in you right now, and what would you rather feel instead?" Somatics works with the body's sensations and responses. Hypnotherapy and NLP work with the subconscious mind and the patterns of language and thought running underneath. All three are present and future-focused, and all three are ultimately teaching your nervous system to regulate, rather than teaching you to understand your past more thoroughly.

If that's landed with you, The Reset weaves all three together, so mind and body are met in the same direction at once.
